About the Project
Deconstruct have successfully secured the demolition, basement and superstructure package at 19-20 Garlick Hill to enable the construction of a new double basement and seven storey boutique hotel. The project, in the heart of the City of London will see the façade retention of a small element of the existing building, significant piling package, temporary works and archaeological excavation across the site. Upon completion of archaeological excavation, the reinforced concrete structural works will commence to leave a finished double basement and 7 storey superstructure available for fit out.
There are numerous challenges this project faces, not least being bounded by two 7.5 tonne weight restricted roads leaving only one accessible road to the project. The project is also unique in that it is situated next to a Christopher Wren designed Church, St James Garlickhythe. As such specific neighbourly agreements have been entered into to ensure minimal disturbance is caused during the works.
