Short’s Gardens
Project details
De Specialist Works were appointed as the specialist works package contractor at Short’s Gardens in Covent Garden, originally known as Queen Street and one of the “Seven Dials.” Offering a total floor area of 23,300 sq. ft. of commercial office space, the property comprises an existing building with commercial office units split over three storeys plus a disused nine metre tall basement.
The building has a rich heritage — once used by a London power company to generate electricity.
Seeking to increase the building’s volume and generate more useable space, whilst creating a structure of quality and merit to the area, the proposal was designed by Stanton Williams.
Scope of works
The project included cut and carve works plus renovation of the existing shell and core office space into a mixed-use development, comprising a new and refurbished commercial office and retail offering. In addition, a two-storey rooftop extension to both Short’s Gardens and Betterton Street was added to accommodate four new residential units.
